ENUM - A ponte entre a rede pública de telefonia e a Internet

ENUM RFC 3761 é um protocolo que utiliza o sistema DNS da Internet para traduzir números de telefone E.164? em esquemas de números IP(como SIP, H.323 ou email). A RFC 3761 substituiu a RFC 2916 em Maio de 2004.

ENUM já é suportado por SIP Proxies SER ou SNOM 4s, VoIP gateways como Asterisk, Cisco e telefones SIP como o SNOM 200.

From the RFC abstract:

In short, a server with ENUM support will lookup a dialled telephone number in DNS to see if there’s alternate ways to set up the call instead of just calling out on the PSTN telephone line. ENUM may contain a reference to a SIP URL, a telephone number to dial, a web page or an e-mail address.

Enum uses DNS NAPTR resource records.
